Danny Oleson and I wrote this song in 2010. Our friend Michele Khazak, who passed away on October 17, 2025, sang the original version and gave it the warmth and honesty that defined it.
The first recording was a DIY bedroom session, and we never felt the production matched what she brought to it. Revisiting the track now, it felt right to give her performance the setting it always deserved.
So we went back into the studio with friends and rebuilt the arrangement from the ground up—new drums, bass, guitars, piano, organ, a full string section (Rachael Beaver, Heather Bentley, Begin Nora, Hiromi Dougherty), and background vocals from Annie Jantzer.
Michele’s original vocal take remains at the center. Everything around it is new. This release is our way of honoring her and sharing her voice in the best light we can.
